Monday night was a tragic night for the commuters of Owode Onirin, a popular auto parts market near ikorodu, the uncontrollable fire destroyed over 20 vehicles, 10 shops and belongings worth millions of naira.
At about 9:30 pm of Monday while commuters were having a good time and returning from work, loud noise and flames were heard and seen causing stir, which forced them to run safety.
The fire destroyed mostly shops in Line M of the market, commuters later came together to put out the fire, it was later gather that the fire was as a result of careless of one food seller who forgot to put off a coal, one Mr bello who claimed he saw the fire starting from the food seller shop and he has lost some vehicles and a bonnet worth 1.2 million naira to the fire.
Another victim, Olamilekan Semiu blames the night guards for failing to notice the fire before it became uncontrollable and also urge the community's leader to build a guard house close to the market for easy night watch, he also suggested that a new rule should stop food sellers from owning a shop inside the market.
An eye witness reportedly said that the Lagos fire service are to be blame for not responding to the call made to them, according to him the fire was put out around 11:30pm.
