Fela Kuti is popular across the world for his music which he used as a tool to fight corruption in Nigeria and Africa at large, it has been 2 decades and 2 years since his death but he is still celebrated and recognized world wide. The fela concert " FELEBRATION" is held every December in Lagos.

1.Fela Kuti was born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti in Abeokuta Nigeria. He lived from Oct. 15th,1938 to Aug. 2nd 1997.
2.Fela Kuti believed his English name " Ransome " was a slave name and later in the 60's adopted " Anikulapo " meaning " to have control over death" .

3.Afrobeat genre is a combination of funk, jazz, salsa, calypso and traditional Nigerian music, it was pioneered and popularized by Fela Kuti .
4.Fela never ever played his song again once he has recorded it, no matter how much he was offered to perform them live he refused.
5. In the 1960s Fela fell in love with the growths of Black power in the United States and in 1969 he was introduced to the Black Panthers while on tour in America.
6.His Mother Fumilayo Ransome Kuti was an activist during the anti colonial movement and this influenced Fela political activism, and he released an album titled Zombie which lead to soldiers throwing his mother out of the window.

8.Fela Kuti married 27 women at a single ceremony in 1978, which he would later divorce them all. In the documentary finding Fela he said " traditions expected me to marry 27u women, I wanted it to be meaningful "
9.In 1978 Fela Kuti was briefly recorded in Guinness book of record for the highest number of women married in a single ceremony.
10.On his final burial millions of people marched with Fela's coffin to his house, more than it have ever been seen in Nigeria.
